Belourthe is a state of the art cereals processing factory, located in Hamoir, in the heart of the beautiful Ardennes region, in Belgium.
Before 2005
Until 2005 the factory belonged to Nestlé, and was Nestlé’s biggest cereal processing site in Europe.
As from 2006
In the beginning of 2006, thanks to a “management buy- out” operation, Belourthe took over the factory, and became a 100% independent company, which is run now by two of the directors of the former Nestlé’s factory.
These events place Belourthe in a position that is unique in the whole world. We are an independent cereals manufacturer having the technology, the equipment and the formulations knowledge as to deliver cereal products with the very same quality of the world’s leader!

Hydrolyzation
Belourthe is probably one of the only independent factories in the world with the capability of delivering production-scale hydrolyzed cereals.
This process enables to optimize the organoleptical qualities of the product, facilitates the digestion and adds natural sweetness (obtaining sweet cereals without addition of sugar)Wet mixing

Three continuous dry mix lines (6 tons/hour per line) are capable of adding innumerous ingredients to the cereals (milk powder, vitamins, sugar, fruits, vegetables, fibers, prebiotics, and others)
Gluten and milk free
Belourthe has separate line for gluten-free products and is able to produce also milk-free items.
Packaging
Our packaging lines provide a great diversity of formats (from 10g individual portions for sampling, to 1 ton bags for industrial customers).

The BRC System
Belourthe quality system is certified by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
The system is a reference for quality assurance in key European countries.
The BRC system is based in a detailed HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) analysis, which ensures the critical points are identified and the food safety is granted.
A yearly audit guarantees our compliance with the BRC standards is being met, before the certificate can be renovated.
The Belourthe staff is trained to abide by the BRC system, and follow strictly the required hygiene norms.
The factory has safety zones where entrance is limited by a badge system.
In other areas, considered as “high hygiene zones”, entrance requires hands disinfection and shoes protection.
Belourthe is also registered to and accredited by the Belgian Federal Agency for the Security of the Food Chain (AFSCA), which inspects the factory two or three times a year.
Halal certification
Our Ninolac baby cereals are HALAL certified, and any of other cereals can be HALAL, in function of the client's needs.

Belourthe uses safety and environmental management system to bring safety and environment into work practices. We are concious that our main asset is our personnel and we put in practice a policy to manage risk and ensure security at all work levels.
We also focus on the responsible use of natural resources and the preservation of the environment.

Some specific enzymes cut the starch in certain conditions, to produce glucose, maltose, maltotriose,…
The production of mono and disaccharides gives naturally a nice sweet taste and is interesting to replace all or a part of the sucrose in many formulations.
Because a minimum of 80 % of the flour is hydrolyzed, the starch isn’t able to produce viscosity anymore, so the hydrolyzed cereals have very low viscosity. There is no impact on the structure and the appearance of the finished product. Belourthe proposes different hydrolyzed cereals, with different DE values. The higher the DE value is the higher is the presence of some mono and disaccharides. The choice of the hydrolyzed cereals depends then on your applications.

CEREAL BASE FOR COCOA DRINKS
Belourthe proposes the Base RC-110 Gluten-free, which contains hydrolyzed rice flour and corn flour and which is specially adapted for cocoa drink powder.
Belourthe has developed with this base a cocoa Drink with 42 % of cereal, without fat and with 50 % less sugar than an usual cocoa drink

Belourthe has a specific hydrolyzing line that is able to hydrolyze flours in different dextrose equivalent (from 5 to 45 DE).
Some specific enzymes cut the starch in certain conditions, to produce glucose, maltose, maltotriose,…
The production of mono and disaccharides gives naturally a nice sweet taste and is interesting to replace all or a part of the sucrose in many formulations.
Because a minimum of 80 % of the flour is hydrolyzed, the starch isn’t able to produce viscosity anymore, so the hydrolyzed cereals have very low viscosity. There is no impact on the structure and the appearance of the finished product. Belourthe proposes different hydrolyzed cereals, with different DE values. The higher the DE value is the higher is the presence of some mono and disaccharides. The choice of the hydrolyzed cereals depends then on your applications.
